"The "Zatyshok/Gezelligheid" Project offers a unique opportunity to delve into Ukrainian culture through a wintertime straw decoration known as Pavuk (spider).
Pavuk, having counterparts in other cultures, - 'himmeli' in Finland, and the 'pająki' in Poland, - helps us visualize Ukraine's strong and old ties with Europe.
We also view this craft, with its delicate yet flexible components, as a symbol of solidarity that needs to be cherished.
We would like to share a gezellig moment with you by taking part in our workshops, exhibits, and discussions and getting to know Ukraine better and deeper, seeing what makes us unique, and which values we share.
If you are interested in learning how to make the pavuk independently or would like guidance in conducting a workshop for your organization, below you can download for free in English, Dutch, or Ukrainian a list of necessary materials, a guide on how to prepare the straw, as well as children’s activity books in Dutch or Ukrainian.
The project “Zatyshok/Gezelligheid” is conceived by “Dzherelo”, a Ukrainian heritage school and cultural center in Amstelveen, an expert in Ukrainian studies and cultural diplomacy.
